I sat there for a while on the back porch. Caleb was everything Matt wasn’t. Matt was my boyfriend of two years. We were the “It” couple if you want to call it that. People said we would get married, have a farm, and raise a yard full of kids. It’s like most school’s high school sweethearts. Almost every year there was one couple who last past high school, stay in the town, and raise their kids here.
Matt was the good hearted, southern boy. He went to Church, helped around town, and was good on a farm. I don’t think Caleb has ever been to Church or even seen a farm till he moved here! But there was something to him. Caleb accidentally heard me singing. No one has ever heard me before, I don’t like performing.
I ran up to my room to get ready for the party tonight. I was done thinking about Caleb. He was nothing then the new kid to me. Parties were different here than most places. Did people drink? Yes, but not at people’s houses. We go out to the big fields, have a bonfire, and relax. Pretty much the entire school will show up.
Girls still get dressed up, but no in heels or something ridiculous. We wear cowboy boots, summer dresses, or jean shorts in the summe/fall.
Matt texted me he was outside so I took off to go meet him. I gave him a kiss as I got into his truck, giving me reassurance that he was the only for me.
“You ready for tonight?” He asked.
“But of course, like every other party.” I smiled.

I was with a few girls talking, sitting on a bed of a truck when Caleb came walking up. He was holding the hand of Abbi. Fuck, seriously? I thought I told him to stay away from her!
“I’ll be right back guys.” I said, excusing myself from the group.
“Hey Caleb.” I smiled. “Abbi.” I said that coldly.
“Uhm, could I speak to you for a second?” I asked. “I promise not to keep him too long.” I gave Abbi a sweet smile, although if I had my way I wouldn’t want him back near here.
So I don’t want to date Caleb! I just don’t like Abbi, is that bad to care for a… friend?
“Fine, whatever.” She rolled her eyes, heading off.
“C’mon.” I waved him to follow me a bit farther away
from the party.
We finally came to another opening in the field and the fire was dimly seen from over here.
“Caleb, seriously. Why are you with Abbi?” I asked.
“Because I want too…?”
I rolled my eyes, “No. I told you she was bad news!”
“So? Why do you care?” He asked.
“Because friends look out for each other!” I blurted out.
Caleb looked taken aback. “Friends?”
“Yeah, aren’t we?”
He shrugged “Sure I guess. But are sure that’s it?”
“What do you mean?” I asked, completely confused.
Caleb stepped closer. “It wouldn’t be because you’d rather it be you?”
My heart started racing. “Would rather it be my hand on your hip?” He placed his hand on my hip.
“Or my hand on your cheek?” Caleb cupped my cheek, making me look at him.
“Or my lips on your’s?”
